With a background working in newspaper pre-press, imaging departments, through to reprographics and magazine production and design, I have always enjoyed working with images using the various industry standard software. Much of the time I found, due to the constraints of the publications and products I worked on, there was very little scope for having fun, except for the odd person’s leaving card here and there. After 15 years in the publishing industry and having spent 10 of those commuting to London, I felt I needed a change of career.
Having made the change I found that after a couple of years I missed the day to day creative buzz of using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Quark!
I have always had an interest in the design and packaging of products, particularly album sleeves, book covers and posters. From an artistic and creative viewpoint, The Beatles have always been a big influence on me.
Initially I was looking for a fun and colourful Beatles-style picture to cover one of the walls in my kitchen but could not find anything I envisaged in shops or online – so, purely for my own enjoyment -started playing around with a couple of ideas for a canvas. It wasn’t until I managed to upgrade my old iMac – that was groaning and straining working on some of the initial ideas I worked on – to a much more powerful piece of kit – that I could begin to experiment and produce something I was looking for. Since that first picture I realised that working on these pictures had become my outlet – or perhaps a form of catharsis – and have continued to produce several others that mix the worlds of music, literature, sport and food products!
