This was done as a birthday card for my friend David’s 40th, to accompany the picture I had worked on for several months, ‘Bark Side Of The Dune‘. David is from the blue half of Liverpool and even though for the last three years has been working overseas in Dubai, follows Everton FC’s progress religiously. The front cover takes the form of a sports back page article and features him as the beleagured manager of the Toffees, quitting after a dismal run of results!
Using a picture I had taken of him on a previous trip which worked perfectly as a touchline image of him watching his ‘team’, it was added to a Champions League action background shot. The reverse of the card shows a shot of David on the banks of the Mersey from the early 1990s, wearing his (then) trademark tweed cap, looking wistfully across the water, perhaps to the future. The page takes the form of an advert for his ‘greatest hits’ compilation, and references one of his other loves, Pink Floyd, together with a few artists and songs he would rather not be associated with! Both these pages were printed on satin finish photographic paper and mounted on card.
